Church of the Wild: How Nature Invites Us into the Sacred Customer Reviews
:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Quentin Dunne -- Intelligent, insightful, and inspiring : As a licensed mental health professional with a particular interest in helping my clients reconnect with nature, I was very intrigued by this book's premise. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Ashrags -- A treasure : This book is a diamond. Truly a call to return home to yourself and Christ through the natural world. A song to the birds, bees and trees - inviting us into the sacred that were surrounded by but not tuned into. A love letter to reimagining and reconstructing our outdated definitions of Christ and “religion” in general. This is a movement and she paints a picture of a world in which the divine is seen and experienced in all creatures, four and two legged beings, and everything in between. Loorz shares her journey from church within walls to outside the walls into the depths of ourselves and what we’ve always known to be true and right. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Valerie S. -- This book is a movement. : This book is a trail full of waymarkers, a pathway through the cracks of modernity. Victoria's story is a golden thread to hold onto that blends worlds in place of the separate silos western culture has built around religion, ecology, history, future. It leads into and co-creates a part of the new world that is emerging from this weaving. Beautiful, expansive, specific, exquisitely detailed and eloquently open. It is a call from the deepest recesses of memory, of land and creature and stars and stones, inviting us back home. Our home as relational awareness with all of the natural world, and with ourselves as an integral part of nature, not as separate hierarchies of being. This story doesn't end. It moves through the readers mind and body and heart and out into the world, creating new pathways into what is holy and real and healing. Victoria's call at this time of rupture and Great Change lovingly invites us into her particular life events, where we can experience our own life events too, as the voice of the divine feminine, both gentle and fierce, holding the truth that "the preposterous transformative power of love at the core of nearly every religion... may just be the only way through." - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Lawrence A Kraft -- Thought-provoking book for all : This is a touching, personal, and thought-provoking book for anyone that feels a connection with nature. I find myself thinking about the book and its messages while I'm on a walk or bike ride or just sitting on my front porch. It gives voice to deep seated feelings whether religion is part of your life or not. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jim Gordon -- This book is a real gift! : It was really providential that I read Victoria’s book during a time when I was dealing with a painful illness. Because I was reading at a time when it was impossible for me to be out on the land, I was able to shift my understanding of being wildness from adventurer miles from home to someone aware and authentically rooted (radically) in love with the Earth where I am. It helped me to expand my awareness of encountering nature from going out into the woods to have a profound encounter to receiving my own place on the Earth with each breath. A big part of it is moving from the masculine—“sure the earth is withering but we can fix it if we just try harder”, to the feminine—which I’m not even sure what that means but this is certainly it! - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jules Larimore -- Inspiration for anyone missing a deep, embodied connection to the divine. : Church of the Wild is an uplifting, insightful read that eases even the non-believer or the tenacious traditionalist into considering seeking the divine in nature. The wilderness is where saviors, prophets, and mystics throughout time have gone for contemplation and deep connection with Spirit. In this book, Victoria Loorz takes you through her own evolution in a light-hearted, very human and informative narrative, allowing us to relate to how we often make our way along a crooked path. And when we finally arrive, we find a joyous journey has just begun! Church of the Wild is an inspiration for anyone missing a deep, embodied connection to the divine, and tells the story of an inspired experience instead of a rigorous teaching. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from RVaughan -- truly inspiring and a joy to read: can't put this book down : I can't put this book down. It's one of the best (spiritual) memoirs I've ever had the joy to read. The writing is compelling and beautiful, and it flows like a river. The story is so true and honest that I'm totally captivated. Victoria Loorz's unique combination of lived spirituality, political awareness and deep love of the natural world is heartening and inspiring. Plus this book includes some serious theological details, about the etymology of certain words in the bible and the implications for the role of the natural world in the gospel, which put Loorz in the same class as Sallie McFague and Catherine Keller. A wonderful book of panentheist scholarship, and a poetic call from the heart to the heart. Thank you Victoria Loorz. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Michele Walker -- Beautifully written invitation to the sacred wild! : This is a book that gives permission to look at church and the sacred in a new way, one that is outside the confines of the church building and the oppressive and patriarchal systems that turn people off church and religion. Victoria invites you into her encounters with the wild, painting a picture of the profound experiences that make you want to have your own encounters with the sacred wild. If you long for connection to sacred and have found you are not fed by the traditional church this will start you down a wonderful and wild path. ( Reviewed in Canada on October 20, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Monique S. -- Amazing invitation to reclaim Gods presence in nature : What a gift! This is a great book to read if you have known all along that church can be found in the cathedrals of trees and that God and the sacred simply cannot be confined to the limitations of buildings and structure. Very inspiring! ( Reviewed in Canada on October 5, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Liz Rees -- An Irresistible Invitation into Sacred Relationship with Earth : An intimate, urgent and achingly beautiful book. I'm so grateful that Victoria Loorz has joined the great conversation. This is a sacred love story about the whole living world. I feel my heart opening and my knees buckling.
